Despite the Mr. East competition being all virtual, the chairladies have worked very hard to make this competition a success.

The Mr. East Chairladies

Every year, East offers the grand opportunity to four lucky students to coordinate one of East’s most beloved events: Mr. East. For Mr. East 2021, Aubrey Demurjian (‘21), Caitlyn Cepeda (‘21), Julia Piotrowski (‘21), and Rachel Cassway (‘21), have been chosen to be the event’s chairpeople!
Although the four chairpersons are involved in various East activities like blood drive, SGA, theater, and many different honors societies, they have dedicated their time and effort to help ensure an enjoyable show for the East community. Considering how well-rounded these four girls are, they are capable of advertising the event to all students across the student body.
“Coming from many diverse groups, [such as the thespian society, production stage manager, multiple honors societies, and CSA] I thought I could definitely bring in many different people into the mix of the event,” says Cepeda.
The chairpersons have devoted their time to working hard with Ms. Radbill, the head of East’s Student Government Association, exploring the different options of presenting Mr. East while abiding by Covid guidelines. They have come to the conclusion that Mr. East will be held on Friday, April 23 at 7 p.m. via a pre-recorded livestream. A link to donate to the Make-A-Wish Foundation will be advertised during the show to ensure that the charity is recognized through the participants entertainment.
“There is definitely a different energy with an audience in the room that we would really love to have for Mr East,” says Cepeda, but with keeping all audience members’ safety in mind, hosting an in person event, especially indoors, is unfortunately unable to happen. The most ideal situation for a viewing setting is being together with friends, stated Cassway, as she brought up a half recorded, half in person fundraising option. However, being together to watch the pageant can still be accomplished, although the student body will not be in the auditorium as they have been in previous years.
Although Mr. East won’t be held in a fashion we are all used to, all of the typical excitement surrounding the event remains! Demurjian says she is looking forward to everyone’s acts because each contestant brings his own spark to the contest.
“This year we have a really diverse group of boys in regards to what they have decided to put on for the show. It will be really fun to see how they incorporate the theme into all of their performances,” said Demurjian.
According to the chairpersons, a hard selection process of narrowing down who performed the most impressive or entertaining act is expected.
“Because all of the boys are such talented individuals and all of their acts are so unique, the judges will definitely have a hard time deciding who will be named Mr East,” said Piotrowski.
