Coen speaks during the event.

John Coen (1990)

John Coen was inducted into the hall of fame for playing football at East in the 1990s. He played a huge part in East’s upbringing in sports and felt highly honored to be selected by the selection committee for an award. He loved reconnecting with old friends and seeing his old coach, Fred Belchikoff, who was always there for him at his games, cheering him on. During his speech, he thanked all his coaches and teammates for being essential players in the game and motivating him to do better every time he stepped on the field. His teammates were his best friends throughout high school, and he loved being part of something special with them. He says, “being a part of a sports family always makes you feel like you belong to something even bigger.” Winning the state championships in 1988 with his teammates was his favorite memory and a celebration they all get to share and remember for life.
