Giving back during the holidays

To me, the holiday season isn’t just about spending time with loved ones, but finding ways to give back to our community. During these difficult times it is important to give back to your community and to those who are in need. Here are five ways that you can give back to our community during this holiday season.
1. “Adopt a Family.”
Adopting a family for the holidays allows you to pick a family and provide toys as per their lists for Santa. By looking up “Adopt a Family,” you can match yourself with a family and receive a list of their holiday “wishes.” By purchasing what is on their list, you can give the family the joy of waking up to presents under a Christmas tree.
2. Giving instead of getting.
During the holiday season consider doing a “giving instead of getting” day. Whether it is making a donation to a fund or dropping of sandwiches to a shelter, spend one day of your holiday season where you decide to give a gift, instead of receiving one for yourself.
3. Clean through your closet.
Walking into the new year, consider going through a closet cleanse. Sorting through clothes that don’t fit anymore, can put clothes on the backs of people in need. This is an easy way to give back during these difficult times during the holiday seasons. Consider giving clothes to Goodwill or the fire station collection and encourage friends and family to do the same!
4. Bake or write letters to our front line workers.
During these times, our front line workers have long endless days in which they spend providing for our country. One way to give back is to write letters thanking them for their service, or even sending a treat over to them. Our teachers, healthcare workers, protective service workers, and more have risked their lives for us and this is an easy and great way to give back!
5. Give Blood.
Giving your blood is an amazing gift, because what better way is there to give the gift of life. Giving safe blood helps save lives and improves health among people who truly need it. During these unprecedented times, giving blood is extremely crucial and a great way to give back this holiday season.

This holiday season consider giving back to the community and helping those in need.
