Damn Skippy wins Lip Sync!
January 30, 2017
On January 27, the Student Government Association (SGA) held its second Lip Sync show. Lip Sync offers the perfect opportunity for students to get together for a night of pure silliness.
Students and teachers put on a show dancing and singing along to songs. Some groups even added to their routine with costumes and props. The winning group received a prize of $500. The crowd determined the winner, with audience members voting for their favorite group through a Google poll. SGA’s initiative behind Lip Sync was to boost school spirit.
“We wanted to increase school spirit at East. We saw a noticeable decline in school spirit, we felt bringing back old events like Lip Sync would bring a rise in school spirit again,” said SGA President, Sung Kwang Oh (‘17).
It was a fun Friday night for students to come out to support their friends having fun on stage, while showing off some school spirit. The tone for the night was set by Mr. Greg Gagliardi as MC for the night.
The opening act was “The English Crew”, a girl group made up of teachers in the English department. Though they performed for pure fun, they put on a fabulous show while bopping along to 80s hits. “Warp Time” was up next doing the classic Timewarp. “The Frosh SGA” devoted their performance out to all the single ladies in the audience by performing a mix of Beyonce’s “Run the World” and Toni Basil’s “Hey Mickey”. “Damn Skippy” brought their A game to the stage with popular 90s tunes. The SGA class of 2019, “Boom-Booom-Never-Gonna-Toxic-You-Up” performed the ultimate mash up, including songs from Britney Spears and The Blacked Eyed Peas. The creative “Femme-Meilleur” had a very unique performance. The “Junior SGA” recreated “You Can’t Stop the Beat” from the musical Hairspray. “Girls with Attitude” performed their rendition of Lil Mama’s “Lip Gloss”. “The 21st Century Guys” break danced while lip syncing. The closing act was by “The Math Crew”, a group of math teachers who also were performing just for fun.
The winner of the Lip Sync show was “Damn Skippy”, with “Girls with Attitude” coming in a close second. The “Junior SGA” came in third place.
