Football team gearing up for the season

According to star running back Brian Regan (’12), the East football team has been working hard to prepare for the upcoming season.

“Our offense has improved and our defense has looked decent.  We’ve changed up our defensive scheme [from last season’s],” said Regan.

One thing worth noting is a potential quarterback change from a year ago.  Jesse Gold (’12) looks to be in position to be the starting quarterback for the upcoming season after taking a year off from the sport his junior year.  His main competition for the job is Blaise Paglione (’13) who filled in for Dan Melleby (’11) after his shoulder injury last season.  No final decision has been announced as to who the starting quarterback will be in the opening game on September 9 at Clearview.

Key Wide Receiver Rob Taylor (’12) dislocated his shoulder in practiced and may be sidelined for a couple of scrimmages.  The team expects him to be able to play once the regular season begins to help them improve on their 1-9 record last season.

The Cougars have their first scrimmage on Tuesday as they will play in a mixed scrimmage with three other South Jersey teams.

The opening regular-season game is September 9 at Clearview.
