Fantasy football: week 7 start and sit

Did you have a good week 6? This is the first of 2 weeks with 6 teams on byes, so lineup adjusting could get a bit hairy for you this week.

Byes: Denver, Seattle, Jacksonville, Detroit, Baltimore, Tennessee

Start of the Week:

QB Philip Rivers (SD) vs. KC: He’s on pace for a huge year, as he did last year and the year before. Against the Chiefs 25th ranked pass D, I guess this may help his cause. Oh, you can discount KC’s good pass D performance last week, because they were playing the ‘Skins.

Story continues below advertisement

Who to Start:

QB Eli Manning (NYG) vs. ARZ: Against ‘Zona’s pass D, second worst in the league, Eli should be able to bounce back from a tough week last week. His wide outs are producing, so that will help him in a game that figures to be a shootout.

RB Thomas Jones (NYJ) vs. OAK: After his monster game against the Bills, he should figure to have a great game against a rush D that allows 145.3 yards a game on the ground. Oakland figures to deflate somewhat, and the Jets need to rebound in a big way, and Thomas Jones will help in that.

WR Wes Welker (NE) vs. TB: In London, against a bad Bucs team, Wes could have a huge game for people in PPR leagues. The Bucs have allowed 13 receiving TD’s all season, 3rd most in the league. And, with Welker coming off a 2 TD performance, he should light the field of Wembley on fire.

WR Hines Ward (PIT) vs. MIN: After what Joe Flacco was able to do the Vikes last week, Big Ben should be able to find Hines early and often. Also, Antoine Winfield, the Vikes best corner, is hurt, so that helps a good wide out against a hobbled 28th ranked pass D.

TE Chris Cooley (WSH) vs. PHI MON: After what Zach Miller (of all people) was able to do the Birds linebackers, I wouldn’t hesitate to start Chris Cooley. It’s a fact that the Eagles don’t cover the tight end well, so that bodes well for Cooley.

DEF Indianapolis vs. STL: The Rams don’t have Donnie Avery, their best wideout. It also doesn’t help that the Colts are coming off a bye. That defense will be fresh, and flying around the field against a Rams offense where even Steven Jackson isn’t playing well.

Who to Sit:

QB Brett Favre (MIN) vs. PIT: I know it may be tempting to start him after last week, but trust me, you don’t want to. Troy Polomalu is back patrolling the secondary, and he will have eyes glued to Brett all day. And, Favre is due for a bad game, and he won’t have it against the Pack.

RB Brandon Jacobs (NYG) vs. ARZ: Funny how he’s on my sit list 2 weeks in a row. Arizona surprisingly is 1st in rush D, and with Jacobs every week losing carries to Ahmad Bradshaw, he will see less and less action. And with Eli having a good matchup, running with Jacobs seems a bit like an afterthought.

WR Terrell Owens (BUF) vs. CAR: He’s gotten to a point where he cannot be trusted anymore. With Ryan Fitzpatrick likely taking the snaps this week, T.O won’t be seeing many deep balls. And with that, he’ll complain, and when he does, he traditionally does badly.

WR Steve Smith (CAR) vs. BUF: With many good wide outs on byes this week, it is hard to bench someone of his ilk. But, against the 4th best pass D in the league, and his production slowly falling off, he seems frustrated, and with the running game working, he won’t see too many deep balls.

TE Kellen Winslow (TB) vs. NE: Against the Pats, who are 6th in pass D and the fact that he doesn’t have a good QB to throw it to him, Winslow will struggle this week. Also, New England traditionally stops tight ends well. Wonder if he’ll slip on the soccer pitch at Wembley.

DEF San Francisco vs. HOU: Beware. Yes the 49ers have a good D, but they got lit up by Atlanta two weeks ago. And, I have a funny feeling that Houston’s offense is better than Atlanta’s. Matt Schaub is on fire, and with that and the fact that Steve Slaton seems to have got it going, the 49ers are in for a stiff test this week.

Sleepers:

QB Tony Romo (DAL) vs. ATL: With Miles Austin on the right track, Tony Romo figures to have a good matchup this week.

RB Jonathan Stewart (CAR) vs. BUF: The Panthers are running the ball very well, and they’re playing a rush D that gave up 318 yards last week.

WR Austin Collie (IND): He’s against the Rams, and he’s got Peyton Manning throwing to him. Enough said.

TE Sean Ryan (KC) vs. SD: Who? The Chiefs tight end that is who. The Chargers allow plenty of fantasy points to tight ends, so he is a good bye week replacement.

DEF Green Bay vs. CLE: The Browns are 31st in total offense, and only score 11.5 PPG. And, Derek Anderson can’t complete a pass.

Waiver Wire:

WR Mike Thomas (JAX): Watch out for this guy. He is a catch machine. And one day, he’ll hit it big. He averages about 6 catches a game, great in PPR leagues. He will break it soon, returning kicks or catching, with his breakaway speed.

Good luck in week 7 (Even though you won’t be paying attention because of the Phils).
