According to the Courier Post, the boys’ and girls’ divisions of the Al Carino Basketball Club of South Jersey has announced the 2009 inductees for the South Jersey Basketball Hall of Fame. Among the inductees are Shawnee’s Brian Earl, Camden’s Greg Barr, Bishop Eustace’s Rita Bernert Gloeker, Middle Township coach Tom Feraco and official Janice Aliberti. In addition to those inductees, Cherry Hill East’s own Nick Katsikis (’86) was inducted as part of the 2009 Hall of Fame Class.
Katsikis starred on East’s Varsity basketball team for four years from 1983-1986. Over the span of his Cougar career, Katsikis established himself as one of our all-time greatest basketball players. Katsikis teamed with Frank Williams and his brother Tom to compile a 69-15 record over his last three years at East.
Katsikis is the all-time school leader in rebounds (743), field goals (697) and steals (214). He trails Williams in total points scored (1,568 points). Katsikis is one of just five East players to score more than 400 points in a season twice (the others being Kurt Barbera, Frank Wiliams, Tom Katsikis and Brent Fisher) and one of seven to score 1,000 or more points in his career (others being Williams, Tom Katsikis, Marcus Bullock, Barbera, Brian Young and George Ramming).
While at East he was a two-time East MVP and won East’s Outstanding Scorer Award twice. Katsikis has already been inducted into the Cherry Hill East Boys Basketball Hall of Fame, alongside former teammates Frank Williams, Tom Katsikis and Marc Levy.
