This year of athletics at Cherry Hill High School East was like none other. An unprecedented number of cancellations, pauses, season suspensions and reschedulings led to a tumultuous year in which more negatives may be spotted than positives. But one thing is for sure- in a year where success was measured in the number of games even played, it was the shining stars in uniform that brought a sense of normalcy to the fields, courts, pools, tracks and alleys.
These athletes represent the strength, grit and finesse of East. They show that a school built around an educational foundation can diversify into the realm of sport, showing the rest of New Jersey that half a town’s worth of teens can breed successful students in and out of the classroom. The Olympic Conference is no joke, and this collection of 53 athletes proved that no pandemic or high-level competition can prevent talent and hard work from shining through.
