Sounds of the 90s

Whether it’s surging through your headphones, blasting at football games, or classically playing in an elevator, music is everywhere. For generations, music has inspired millions. Just like fashion and technology, music is constantly innovating and evolving.

With all the new music being created and this decade’s most recent hits, attention is drifting away from the music that was created in just the past twenty years. Although, the music from decades ago isn’t as well-known today, some of the greatest music was created in that era: an era that is familiar to some, foreign to others, and often referred to as the 1990s.

The 90s ultimately revolved around alternative rock. Teenagers and adults of the 90s lived through the success of famous bands such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, Sublime, Green Day, Foo Fighters, Goo Goo Dolls, and Blink-182. If any kids of this generation were to hear “Snow” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, they would be able to sing along, yet would not be able to identify the band behind the music.

Other than “Snow” the Red Hot Chili Peppers are known for having produced about 14 albums and countless number one hits. The most popular album by the RHCP was called Californication, which was their seventh album. The album includes some popular favorites, for example, “Around the World”, “Road Trippin’”, “Scar Tissue”, “Other Side”, and “Californication”.

Another band, which originated in the 90s, that will never go out of style is Sublime. Sublime’s first album came out in 1992 and was called 40oz. to Freedom. 40oz. to Freedom is definitely one of the best albums produced by Sublime. Sublime is a great band to listen to while relaxing and having fun during time off in the summer.

A new artist or band is born into the music world every day. Many bands and artists have and will continue to inspire and greatly affect people’s lives. Famous names like Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson were years before our time, yet are still widely known today because of their music’s great impact.

Music is an essential part of our lives, no matter the release date on the CD. An exceptional artist or a song of fantastic quality will remain just that forever. Bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sublime, and countless others will always be significant, regardless of the decade they initially began to rock.
