On October 21st, the Cherry Hill East Varsity Field Hockey team played against the nationally ranked Eastern team, state champ for the past 10 years.
Eastern scored 4 goals in the first half of the game, and 3 in the second, leading to a final score of 7-0 Eastern. Nevertheless, East played decidedly well, holding its own against an incredibly tough opponent. The team had a few shots on goal and one corner, though no goals were successfully scored.
Carly Anne Wichrowski (’10) was injured during the game, when the stick of a player on the Eastern team cut her nose on the follow through of a shot, promptly breaking her nose and sending her to the hospital. Her fellow teammates wish her a speedy recovery.
On a happier note, however, was the news that the East team had qualified for states.
“We beat the #1 team in our playoff division in a scrimmage so I think we have a shot,” said Carly Shrader (’10).
The date of East’s first state game is subject to change, and will be held on either October 29th, 30th, or 31st.
