High Five! East Soccer team dispatches of Gloucester Catholic

After the Boys Soccer team took care of Pennsauken Thursday 7-1, their focus shifted to Friday’s game against Gloucester Catholic.  A team coming farther than most to take on the Cougars, not many knew much about the Catholic School opponents. As the second half of the season began, the Cougars looked to reach .500 with a win to get to 5-5 on the year.

Similar to Thursday’s game, the Cougars struck early with a goal from Matt Muench (’13) in the 12th minute.  Throughout the rest of the half, East seemed to control the tempo and generate a couple more offensive scoring opportunities.  However, nothing came of those chances as the game reached the half with East holding the 1-0 lead.

Despite not getting any more in the first half, the Cougars continued knocking on the door and eventually the door broke down in the 52nd minute.  Zach Steinbock (’13) found the back of the net to add to the lead.  After this goal Gloucester seemed have a couple of chances to score and cut the lead in half, but it was not to be.

In the 77th minute Andre Adler (’13) iced it for the Cougars with a goal of his own making the score 3-0.  Later in the half, the 85th minute to be exact, Ethan Messinger (’13) connected on a free kick for an exclamation point on another Cougar victory.

One of the defensive stars, Center Fullback Adam Cohler (’13) helped seal down the victory.

“This was a big win for us today,” said Cohler afterwards. “ It was a great team effort by everyone to get us a much needed win and reach .500”

At 5-5 after 10 games the Cougars do indeed sit at .500 with a couple of games coming up early next week.
