Eight East swimmers compete in girls’ meet of champions

This past weekend, March 7th and 8th, part of the girls’ swim team participated in the meet of champions. The meet, held at Gloucester County Institute of Technology, hosted the top swimmers in the state. Not all swimmers are able to partake in the meet because one must qualify in her category. Head Coach Ms. Anita Ricci said that even qualifying is an accomplishment for the girls.

The meet is basically an individual meet for states. The following swimmers qualified and swam at the meet:

Samantha Sides (‘11) – 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard backstroke
Jessica Simunek (‘09)- 100 yard breaststroke and 100 yard butterfly
Lauren Faykes (‘09)- 200 yard individual medley and 100 yard backstroke
Kristen Lee (‘10) – 200 yard individual medley and 100 yard breaststroke
Marlee Ehrlich (‘12)- 200 yard freestyle and 100 yard backstroke
Hailey Shore (‘09)- 50 yard freestyle
Jamie Platt (‘09)- 200 yard freestyle relay
Carrie Vuong (‘10)- 200 yard freestlye relay
Overall finishes:
Samantha Sides placed 4th in the 50 yard freestyle
Lauren Faykes placed 10th in the individual medley and 14th in the 100 yard backstroke
Faykes, Simunek, Sides and Shore came in 5th in the 200 medley relay
Vuong, Ehrlich, Shore and Platt came in 13th in the 200 free relay
Ehrlich, Sides, Simunek and Faykes came in 7th in the 400 free relay
