East football fans enjoy improved stadium

This summer the East football team received a scoreboard and bleachers, financed by Carl Pursell, father of East running back Andrew Pursell (’10). The scoreboard is located in the south end zone. The addition of the home bleachers was a major bonus for fans. Dan Berger (’12) said “there is no more yellow fungus” on the stands. I am sure if you ask Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys who also received a new stadium this year, he will tell you he never had such problems. However as high school students we are just happy that in return for our  admission price we have a bench to sit on and a game to watch.

After the first ever game played at East last year Carl Pursell decided that the field conditions and the lack of bleachers was not acceptable for the fans. Scott Leibowitz (’12) a new student who attended Roxbury in North Jersey said “the fans at East are very supportive”. The expansion financed by Mr. Pursell consisted of two new bleachers for the home crowd, smaller bleachers for the visitors brave enough to enter cougar territory, and a brand new score board.

The Cougar fans excitedly filled the stands on Thursday, September 16th to watch the varsity team’s home opener for the first time since the expansion of the stadium. The crowd seemed to love the addition and a new field they can call home.
