East Boys Soccer defeats rival West team 1-0

Cross-town rivals, Cherry Hill East and Cherry Hill West met this Friday, October 16 during a long, tight, and physical soccer game between the boys.  The game produced a big crowd of students and parents to cheer on the Cougars in a game that would ultimately end in East’s favor.

East dominated the first half, keeping the ball in its possession for an easy majority of the time, but was unsuccessful in finding the goal.  The defense and particularly the goalie, Lee Rosen-Swell (’16), prevented any balls from getting into the net.  Had it not been for Robert Sparrow’s (’17) slide tackle, West may have taken the lead going into the second half.

With the game getting more intense as it progressed, Olin McClendon (’16) had a potent throw in, and he took the game into his own hands.  A perfect throw sailed to an ideal location in front of the net and was finished beautifully by Zach Fox (’17) for his first goal of his senior season, and the first and only goal of the soccer game.

With the extra boost, East continued to thrive for the remainder of the game, and each position held West off from potentially tying the game.  The game ended leaving Cherry Hill East with a 1-0 victory against their biggest rivals in a nail-biting encounter.
