Boys’ cross country places twelfth in state meet

On Saturday, November 14, 2009, East’s boys’ varsity cross country team traveled to historic Homldel Park in Holmdel, NJ to race in the New Jersey Group IV State Meet. The team fared relatively well, as they finished in twelfth place out of twenty with 290 points. The Cougars managed to one-up division rival Cherokee High School, who finished in thirteenth place with 292 points.

Leading the way for the Cougars was Steve Omari (’11), who finished in 48th place with a time of 17:12 on the 5 kilometer (3.1 miles) course.  Following in suit behind Omari was Scott Zhao (’11) (17:19, 57th place), Chris Dinh (’10) (17:22, 62nd place), and Damon Glatz (’11) (17:28, 70th place). Rounding out the five man scoring team for the Cougars was Zach Ianarelli (’12), who finished in 102nd place with a time of 17:54.

East’s twelfth place finish at Holmdel marks the end of a very successful season for the boys cross country team. With five out of seven varsity runners returning next year, East’s boys’ cross country team is primed for great success next year.
