Matt Iacono started the @che_commits2020 instagram to highlight the seniors.

On March 26th, 2020, the senior class found out that Disney World had closed due to COVID-19. Therefore, their March senior trip was then postponed.

Students have been looking forward to this trip all year. Students bought Disney themed backpacks, picked out outfits, scheduled their fast passes and dinner reservations. It was heart shattering to read the news that Disney was closed until further notice.

A letter from Dr. Perry was mailed to the seniors on April 2nd, 2020 regarding the senior trip being rescheduled for June 7th-11th, 2020. Families have the option to cancel their trip now and get a full refund any time before Friday, April 17th. However, if the school cancels the trip again, all families will be refunded.

In the letter, Dr. Perry also writes, “We have decided to make from Monday June 1st through Tuesday June 16th a time we are calling senior weeks. These weeks will include our memorable Senior-only activities, like the Yearbook party, Senior Skate night, Senior Prom, Senior Class trip, and Graduation.”

It was very comforting for us to know that Disney and all the events us seniors are supposed to have could possibly still happen. Administration, teachers, and staff are doing everything they can to make it up to us which is very much appreciated. They have already sent inspirational videos or pictures to the secretary of activities, Ms. Barr, who then compiled all of the videos and pictures into one big video. Students can access this video through the link on cheactivities Instagram!

Senior students are also doing what they can to make the most of this situation. Matt Iacono (‘20) decided to make an Instagram account called che_commits2020 where he makes collages for each student and where they are going to college. In each collage, he puts a picture of the student with their name, college, and major.

Iacono says, “I created this sorta as an online graduation. We do not know if we will even get to have a real one, so why not do this while I have the free time.”

SGA seniors are also working on creating a video or something special and fun for our class! We know how hard these past few weeks have been and are trying to savor our past memories and do our best to recreate the ones we are missing out on. Stay safe and hopefully we can all be together soon.
