Senior Perspective: Russell Beatty

Being the scrawny freshman that I was, I can’t say I walked into East on my first day of school filled with confidence. I did not expect to accomplish anything spectacular or make much of an impact. However, as I progressed through my four years, I discovered the vast number of opportunities East has to offer, and the strong sense of community present in both the Class of 2012 and in the entire school.

Joining the cross country team was quite possibly the best decision I have ever made. My involvement with the team has taught me how hard work, dedication and perseverance can transform optimistic dreams into realities. There is no greater feeling than achieving success despite adversity. I met my best friends through cross country and I will never forget the success we achieved and the goals we accomplished as a team.

Representing Cherry Hill East on the cross country course has certainly been my greatest opportunity in high school. However, I also got to experience life off the course as a spectator. I highly doubt I will ever attend a sporting event with a better student section than the South Jersey Finals. You know your school has something special when over 600 students come decked in red and white to support their team. As a senior, I feel that I have soaked up everything high school has had to offer. It has been the time of my life, and I sure am glad I can call myself a cougar.
