On Friday, February 22, the Cherry Hill East Sophomore class and their dates took a trip to the hottest and coldest place in South Jersey: the fire-and-ice-themed Sophomore Cotillion.

The event took place from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and was attended by members of the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior classes. The entrance to the cotillion included a purple carpet with snowflakes and a red carpet with flames leading up to a balloon arch placed above the door to Cafeteria 2.

The students and chaperones enjoyed a buffet of food ranging from assorted cookies and mini cupcakes to Mac n Cheese bites and chicken fingers. Students spent the night dancing, congregating to talk in small groups and enjoying the assortment of appetizers and deserts.

“We had a lot of finger foods that people could pick at as they had fun and partied all night,” said Sophomore Class President Jeffrey Kaminer (‘21).

In addition to the food displayed on the tables surrounding the dance floor, the music created an incredibly energetic ambience. The DJ played a wide range of music, from the current trending pop songs like “Mo Bomba” by Sheck Wes to popular throwbacks like “Low” by Flo Rida and “Shots” by LMFAO.

In addition to the throngs of students that usually attend dances, East hosted a group of 35 French exchange students come to East from Lycee Paul Lapie in Courbevoie, France, of whom the majority are in Secondaire (sophomores) themselves.

“The dance was really cool, the DJ was very fun, the organization was very good and everyone was very nice,” said Victor Eouzan, a French student.

Many East students were pleasantly surprised by the vibrant and fiery energy that the French students gave off. The dance floor had an international flare, filled with mosh-pits of East and the French exchange students.

“It was nice to meet all of the French exchange students and party with them,” said Carlie Levine (‘21)

Other students enjoyed the cultural melange the dance presented.

“My friends and I had an amazing experience mixing our culture with the French culture,” said Mary Fleischmann (‘21).

At the end of the night, the Sophomore class gave out t-shirts as a party favor. The t-shirt is navy with “SOPH COT 2019” spelled out in the top left corner on the front and “FIRE & ICE” written on the back with flames and ice surrounding the words.

Overall, the Sophomore SGA was happy with the outcome of their cotillion.

“The dance was packed and an overall success. The dance floor was very crowded,” said Sophomore Class Vice-President Sami Bell (‘21).
