East students have a blast at Lip Sync Competition

SGA re-ran their first Lip Sync Competition at East since the 1990s on January 15, 2016. Mr. Davis, the activities director and coordinator of the event, loved the event and thought that 2016 was the perfect year to bring it back.
About 250 people came to the hour and a half event hosted in the East auditorium. Many parents, alumni, students and other people in the community came to support the competitors.
The show first began with a funny introduction video, mimicking the new Lifetime show that Cherry Hill East’s Stay Tuned is in, Pitch Slapped in which Davis assumed the role of Deke Sharon. Afterwards, Stay Tuned performed their own lip sync where they sang and danced to Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off”.

Robin Brown (‘16), Charlotte Montgomery (‘16), Emily Mosgowsky (‘16), Jenn Andalora (‘16) and Sebastian Duva (‘16), team Full Circle Martial Arts on Rt. 70, who sang “Kung Fu Fighting”
Chris Rivera (‘18) on the GOAT’s, who sang “You Got It On” by Justin Timberlake
Brett Dashevsky (‘16), Drew Meklinsky (‘16), Josh Salkin (‘16) and Jesse Dubrow (‘16), The Backstreet Boys, who sang “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)”
Maddy Vogel (‘18), Madi Palat (‘18), Ben Bliss (‘18), Ben Resnick (‘18) and Drew Hoffman (‘18), Santa’s Little Helpers who sang “Jingle Bell Rock (Mean Girls)”

To choose the winner of the Lip Sync Competition, the audience had to text their choice winner to a certain phone number. Then the number was tallied and the winner was announced.
The winner of the competition were the Rice Girls who received a $200 cash prize to be distributed by the members of the group. The girls spent a few hours a week for a couple of days a week practicing.
“When I came into office, I wanted to create or bring back events that people would enjoy and remember…It turned out so much better than expected it would be a year ago which is amazing to me because it’s most likely my last event as SGA president and I’m glad it was successful,” said SGA President, Brett Dashevsky (‘16).
Unaware of the fact it took place in the past, Dashevsky came up with this idea after seeing some of Jimmy Fallon’s lip sync skits and thought it would be a good idea to bring it to East.
He hopes that the event continues in the years to come and continues to grow successful at East.
