Every year, artists release albums that they hope audiences all around the world will enjoy. Only few albums, however, are the lucky ones and will get downloaded by millions. In 2014 there were great songs and there were less inspiring songs. This list compiles the top ten albums of 2014, according to iTunes:

10. 5 Seconds of Summer, 5 Seconds of Summer

9. The Outsiders, Eric Church

8. X, Ed Sheeran

7. Pure Heroine, Lorde

6. Beyonce, Beyonce

5. Guardians of the Galaxy Movie Soundtrack

4. In the Lonely Hour, Sam Smith

3. Ghost Stories, Coldplay

2. 1989, Taylor Swift

And the number one album of 2014 is no other than Frozen.

It is not shocking that Frozen came in at number one. When the animation film debuted in early 2014, it immediately struck not only the children’s world, but also the teenage and adult world.

The catchy hit “Let it Go” became the “song to be heard” across the world. There is no doubt that any other movie will have as great a soundtrack as Frozen does.

1989 by Taylor Swift became an instant top-seller when it came out on Oct. 27. The album’s popularity was certainly not surprising; Swift’s records have been best sellers since she started releasing music in 2006.

Others on the list include Pure Heroine by Lorde, which features the hit song “Royals.”

X by Ed Sheeran also made the list. This album features the hit song “Sing.”

5 Seconds of Summer by 5 Seconds of Summer made a splash in the media world when it came out with the song “She Looks So Perfect,” which soon found its way into people’s heads and couldn’t find a way out.

2014 was certainly a great year for music and it will only get better in years to come.
