Each year, millions of movie-lovers gather around their televisions with bowls full of crunchy popcorn to view the highlights of a year’s worth of cinema during ABC’s presentation of the annual Academy Awards Ceremony. On February 27, the Academy will present its 83 annual ceremony live from the Kodak Theater, with co-hosts Anne Hathaway, famous for her role in “The Princess Diaries” and her more recent film, “Love and Other Drugs,” and James Franco, famous for his role as Harry Osborn in the “Spider-man” trilogy and his more recent film “127 Hours.”

“James Franco and Anne Hathaway personify the next generation of Hollywood icons—fresh, exciting and multi-talented. We hope to create an Oscar broadcast that will both showcase their incredible talents and entertain the world,” Oscar telecast producers Bruce Cohen and Don Mischer said in a press release.

According to Julian Stark, an aspiring film journalist and critic, some films predicted to land on the nominations list for “Best Picture” are: “Black Swan,” “Blue Valentine,” “Hereafter,”  “How do you know?,” “Inception,” “The Kids Are All Right,” “Night Catches Us,” “Rabbit Hole,” “Somewhere,” and “The Tree of Life.” Some other films predicted to be featured on the list are 2010 favorites: “Toy Story 3” and “The Social Network.”

East students should wait in their seats until January 25, when the nomination lists will officially be released, and then buckle their seat belts because the ride to the 83 annual Oscars will only have just begun.
