The most anticipated weekend is finally here: Memorial Day weekend. This weekend is known as the unofficial start of summer, because many people from nearby areas travel down to the Jersey shores to soak up the sun and have fun on the beach. No matter what beach you go to, it is most likely packed with people enjoying the beautiful weather and finally escaping the cold from the previous long winter.

Daniella Schrieber (‘19) is one of the many Cherry Hill East students who traveled to Margate for this long weekend.

“It’s a tradition to come here every year with my family and friends,” she said. “The beach is always packed with high school and college kids, so wherever I go I always see people I know.”

Luckily, the weather forecast was not a total upset, so people were able to spend some time on the beach.

“I am glad that this weekend [was] not a total wash out,” Schreiber said. “People were able to go to the beach and tan while not having to be cold. It [was] a little windy on the beach the first two days but that did not stop anyone from coming outside.”

A popular destination for all the kids in Margate is Lucy Beach, where tons of teenagers crowd the beach and meet up with their friends.

“Lucy Beach is always packed and crazy with kids of all ages,” said Schreiber. “This is the hot spot to be where you can meet up with everyone and meet new people as well.”

Memorial Day weekend is the perfect opportunity to take a quick vacation with your family. Many people cannot wait to finally get a chance to spend a day on the beach after staying inside all winter.

Lynn Mondel of New Jersey said, “[Memorial Day weekend] is a great opportunity to escape from the real world for a few days and come down to the shore and have a good time while relaxing by the ocean with your family and friends.”

Even though this Memorial Day weekend has come to an end, there will still be one just as great next year. Summer is approaching soon enough, and soon every day will be a great day to go to the beach.
