Captain America: An emotional roller-coaster

Captain America: Civil War is an emotional roller-coaster for those who feel a connection to every individual superhero in the movie. The movie begins with a disagreement between the Avengers over whether the government should control their actions. Captain America (Chris Evans) believes that the Avengers should not be restricted in their fight for justice, while Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) believes that giving them total freedom to do what they want makes them dangerous and no better than bad guys. Both characters gain other superheroes to be on their side, and recruit non-avengers, like Ant Man (Paul Rudd) and even Spider Man (Tom Holland). When Captain America’s friend Bucky is accused of committing an act of terrorism, Captain America and his team try to protect Bucky (Sebastian Stan) and Iron Man, with his team, tries to stop him. This is where the fighting begins, and things get personal.

The actors, as usual, are spot-on in their roles. Downey keeps Tony Stark’s sarcastic attitude, while Evans continues to make Steve Rogers serious and to the point. Chemistry between the actors is great, as no one character takes dominance over the others, an amazing feat done by Marvel.

Watching the heroes clash is heartbreaking and gratifying all at the same time. Civil War successfully brings together fan-favorite heroes from all over the Marvel cinematic universe. One would think that with so many characters, Civil War would not be able to give them the screen time they deserve. However, Civil War gives each character plenty of screen time They are not merely there for the sake of being there, as they actually contribute to the story. Fans will also see character growth in relatively newer heroes to the cinematic universe, such as Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany).

Something that makes Civil War special, is that the two opposing sides are not trying to hurt each other. A part that shows this is when Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) pins Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) to the ground during a fight. Black Widow asks if they will still be friends, and Hawkeye responds jokingly that it depends on how hard she hits him.

Civil War is great for any fan of the Marvel cinematic universe. Background knowledge is not necessary for newcomers to understand the story-line, but highly recommended as there are many references to pre-Civil War events. It is an action-packed, emotional movie that is fun for fans of all ages to enjoy. Remember to stick around for post-credit scenes.
